Law Society of Ontario Civil Litigation

519-966-1300

With over 42 years of experience, Ray is one of only five lawyers in Windsor certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Civil Litigation. He has argued cases before County and District Courts and the Supreme Court of Ontario (in the days before amalgamation), Superior Court of Justice, Divisional Court, Court of Appeal, Ontario Court of Justice, Federal Trial Division, and the Federal Court of Appeal.

He has argued many Applications for Leave to Appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada, and he appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada in the Veteran's Pension Case (Authorson v Canada). For many years, the Veteran's Pension Case was the largest class action in Canadian history, and remains a seminal case in that regard.

He has acted on countless reported cases, which includes many cases of first instance. He helped changed the law in pension administration through the seminal case of Carrigan v Carrigan Estate, which is still studied in law schools and on the Barrister Admission Exam materials.

He has also appeared before almost all administrative tribunals, including the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board (HPARB), the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Canada Labour Relations Board, the Ontario Municipal Board, and the Federal Security Intelligence Review Committee.

He has been a sessional instructor at the University of Windsor Faculty of Law teaching Civil Trial Advocacy for the last 25 years.
